William Brooks Will was born into slavery and lived in Marion, Perry County, AL.  Around the late 1840's several slave owners moved their households from Marion, Perry County, AL. to establish the town now known as Marion, Union Parish, LA.  William's father and mother were both born in Georgia, but their names are unknown at the present. 

Around 1852, at the age of 26, William married Sinie Elizabeth Thomas and they had the following children together: Julia [married Pleasant James], Laura [married Robert Benford], Columbus [married Narcissus Mitchell], Shilley [married Louis Reed], Jackoline [married Lucious Harper], Henry, William Brooks, Jr. [Susanna Jackson], Mariah [married William Chapman], Frank Lee, Sr. [married Bettye Mims], Charlie O, Edward, Mary Lou [married Sam Myers]. George Allen [married Mary Archie], Ellen [Alfred Pearson].

William was a blacksmith.  He repaired farm equipment and gins.  Sinie earned money making quilts.

William died on November 10, 1898, at the age of 73.
